How to get curly hair on top?

My hair is naturally curly. I use non alcoholic hair gel and find that best. My hair goes in soft tight ringlets underneath, which I love, but I'd like to get the same effect on top, and cant seem to get it. Instead, the top goes just wavy, dry and tangly. any suggestions?

Finally someone with the same problem as me. The reason why our hair is like that on top is because the curls weigh down the top of our hair, causing it go flat and lifeless. Usually the minute I get out of the shower I use curling cream, not gel, comb it through my hair, then flip head upside down and message my scalp a little bit to give the top a little oomph, and to also give my hair some body.

Curls love graduated layers! Use a little frizz ease kind of product ISO has a wonderful laminate, ISO is a Sebastian product I think?. There is a haircutting process called "Slithering." It takes only the top sections and slides the scissor across the group of hairs to give a layered effect without actually having to hack into the entire head as real layers require. Go to a specalist in either long or curly hair and ask them to give you a cut to do what you want.
