Why is hair softer after straightening it?

my hair feels kind of coarse but when i straighten it it becomes heavenly hair that is silky and lovely feeling.

Also I straighten my hair 5 - 6 times a week how do i tell if it is damaged?

I shampoo every 3 days or so.

my hair is fairly soft but I put hair gel in it often. my bff has the softest hair ever but its somewhat frizzy.

so why does my hair feel less damaged after straightening it?

Why is hair softer after straightening it?

straightening it flatens the cuticle on your hair, which usually sticks up

It's not that it's more healthy after striaghtening your hair; ofcourse your hair is damaged, but it feels healthier, and softer becuase your straightener flattened out all of the frizzes that causes the hair to feel brittle and dry.. Getting splitends out of control lets you know that your hair is getting dried up

Why is hair softer after straightening it?

Your hair feels soft because when you straighten it you are forcing the cuticle layer (the outer layer) to lay flat. Plus you aren't feeling all the kinks and curls.

You are doing what you can for your hair by not washing ans straightening every day. Flat irons do take a toll on your hair though. You can tell because your ends will get jagged and you'll see alot of split ends. Your ends will look frizzy even though you straightened them.

A good rule of thumb is to get a trim every 4-6 weeks. Try using heat safe products to protect your hair when your are straightening. Try to give your hair a break once in awhile and go curly. Use the lowest heat setting on your flat iron that still gets your hair straight.

I thinks it's because of the conditioners used in the straightening product. This is added to add extra protection to the chemical in the straightening agent. Also when the cuticle of hair lyes flat, as with straight hair, is feels smoother to the touch, verses curly hair that has a waving/curly cuticle.
