Get a good leave in conditioner, or a milky-like serum for control. It'll also define, without weighing your hair down, like gels.
You might want to start leaving some of the curls out on the side, rather than fighting them. They probably look nicer than you think...but still get one of the two products mentioned above for control and definition.
