My just son just turned 13 and his hair is out of control. He refuse's to get it cut and I totally believe in being yourself and your own person. I don't even want him to get it all cut off just thinned out maybe. His hair doesn't grow long just grow's out cuz it's so wavy and thick. Is there anything he could put in it to tame it down. We try hair gel, spray's, pomade. Anyone have any suggestion's? And I'm all for long hair on guy's but his is just so wild. Thanks!!

my younger bro is 15 and his hair is exactly the same! its soooo thick and just grows so fast. he's pretty self concious of his ears which stick out a little..but not too much. we had to get him to gain the trust of a hairstylist who convinced him she wouldnt make it shorter, just thinner....he's a skater and i think he also likes the look of "skater hair"....get your son to look through mens hair magazines or just teen magazines. get him to find a picture of what he wants his hair to look like...then get a hairstylist who specializes in teen or men's hair cuts. then everyone will be happy! Well, it depends on how long it really is. If it covers up all of his eyes, then yes, he needs a haircut. But i wouldnt suggest hair products, because it just makes your hair appear - well, grossly. But, my advice is to let him keep growing it out- maybe he'll see how bad it really is.

Okay you are nothing like my mama, she would have never let me or my 5 brothers go without a needed haircut.... if you're really having trouble getting him to want it cut... give him the option that my dad gave my brothers.... it gets cuts shorter by someone else, or it gets shaved to the skin by me! Quit being a wimp, who is the parent here? besides having long thick hair is unsanitary for boys in puberty, it help speed up the process of embarrassing acne because hair traps outside oils as well as creates its own! This can lead to poc marks and facial scarring especially around the hair line, cheeks, and neck.

not to be rude but if he's white then a shorter style will make it more managable with proper hygiene and a sparing amount of gel (extra hold) another trick to making his hair more managable is to have the barber use a razor instead of scissors... remember even if it's short now it'll grow and look great.... with thick wavey or curly hair you should never let it get past the collar, ear, and eye brow or it's untamable!!

if he's black (which i'm assuming he's not since you said "wavey hair") relax it and get braids, and get them re-done every couple of weeks. or wear the hair short in the wave style (applying pomeade, and wave grease then putting on a du-rag and pressing for a couple hours... apply a hot rap and continue to keep warm for about 5 minutes this will soften hair... then brush with a soft bristled brush in the direction of natural hair growth, reapply the du-rag, and let set for another hour or for 15 with a hot wrap....

heh well my brother is the exact same way and he murders his hair. If it is long it should be taken care of. Try getting him to let you do his hair, and if you do it well enough he will trust you enough to let you do what you like and eventually he will start to do his hair that way. my brothers hair also gets really knarly after he gets done skateboarding, all sweaty and gross. watch out for that :)

well, i have the SAME hair as you..... frizzy, shorter but not too short (to the shoulder) brown and curly.... and i do sum things to it to make it look fabu! well, wat kind of shampoo and contitioner do you use? i would reccommend Sunsilk anti frizz shampoo and conditioner (thats what i use and it makes my hair less frizzy) also, use a fair amount of conditioner becuz u have thicker curlier hair. when you get out of the shower, DO NOT TOWEL DRY YOUR HAIR!!!!!!!!!!! instead, squeeze out your hair and then use a paper towel, not a real towel, because real towels make your hair sooo much frizzier.dry your hair with the paper towel just so it is not dripping soaking wet. then use a wide comb to comb your hair. START FROM BOTTOM TO TOP. when you are done with that, put in Vo5 curvasious curls mousse (it is a fat, red metal bottle thing) put a generous amount on your palm, then rub it together with your hands and work it into your hair.... scrunch up your hair and let it air dry.... DO NOT USE A REAL HAIR DRIER unless you are using a diffuser, but air drying your hair gives you the least frizz, so that is what i would reccomend you do.... That will give you frizz free hair...

I would NOT reccommend straightening your hair because the more you straighten it, the less curlier your hair gets..

NO offense to anyone else reading this, but straight hair isnt that special, almost evry1 has it and you can do alot to it but it isnt as pretty as curly hair.... once your hair is frizz free, you will rlly appreciate it like i do

I bought a CHI hair staightener. They are about 100.00 bucks or so.. make sure you use hair syrum....... start from the bottom and work your way up to the front.

Somtimes blow drying it first helps, yes it will be FRIZZY after blow drying it, but it makes it so much easier to straighten.

You may need to 'practice' this, when you are not 'going out' and have the time to 'play' with your hair, but try a bun ... you may use a 'hair band for pony tails' but only a 'larger one' ... put it at the 'low back' first, then fold your hair up, and do it again (same band), then fold it down, and 'secure' the band and 'fluff' your hair so it covers the band. Or you can try 'rolling it' to one side, LOOSELY, and use a 'scissor-comb' to hold it, or 'stab through' it rolled at the top with two pretty chopsticks ... they'll not hold 'tight' but the 'look' is wonderful, and if it starts to come down (if it's long enough, it should stay up better) you can just 'tighten it' and put the sticks through again. Firstly I would suggest getting it thinned toward the ends, that way it won't be quite so poofy. Also, getting it done in layers can take a lot of excess hair out of the way so it won't be so thick. I would also suggest a frizz-ease serum or treatment and using a diffuser when you dry it. Also, get some sort of professional shampoo and conditioner especially for curly hair.

If that doesn't help, you do have the option of chemically straightening it!

You can also buy really good products at a salon, they might be a little more pricey than a store, but they work without the frizz. I have the exact same hair by your description, what I do is use some gloss spray to tame any of the frizz after I scrunch it. Don't use to much though otherwise it will look greasy. Also, no blow drying it will just make the hair more frizzy and dry. Have you tried to straighten it to see what it looks like? If you do straighten it use a heat insulator to protect your hair from heat damage. We are the lucky ones people say, we can straighten or let it go curly, harder to get straight hair to go curly and stay that way. Good luck. try a simple styling spray brushed through, then using the brush, flick the hair outwards, starting from the bottom and hair closest to the scalp.

Like you, i am low maintenance. I keep my hair long and just straighten it. If yours is already shoulder length, I would just get one layer to give it a little volume and cut it a little above the shoulders. Then use a straightener and kind of flip your hair out. I have seen this cut and love it. It is easy to maintain and if you wanted to do something with it, the layers would give you more options. I think just adding one layer does a lot though.

After you flatiron your hair, take http://www.drugstore.com/products/prod.a... and gently spray the tips of your hair, then run over them with the flatiron again. Make sure to use a light flexable hairspray so it doesn't get cakey.

If that doesn't work you might want to get a better flatiron, trust me they are worth the money.

I would get a big round brush and flip the hair in while you're blowdrying. I used to have the same problem, and I've found that when you're wanting it to fall a certain way overall, its better to style it during the drying process. The straightening iron will help smooth out the look.

i have an andies too. and mine does the same thing. so i thoughti t was just the straightner but its not. i bout revlon and mine lips out too. then i go to straighten it and it gets worse. i just get so frusterated. im prettu sure its the way they cut the hair. or the curls flip out too. idk all i can say is ask your hairdresser and i honestly wish you the best of luck:)

Ugh, mine does that too!! but one side flips out and the other one flips towards my chin and I look all windswept. But it's easy to fix. Use a round brush and hairdryer to curl it under and finish with a flexible hold spray.
