well my little brother just got his hair cut for base-ball pictures and while he was at his practice, his coach was playing around and said "dont forget to shave!" and my little brother did not know it was a joke so he shaved the sides of his hair while he was in the shower, is there any at home products I can use to make his hair grow faster? Well his hair is not going to grow back that fast maybe try washing his hair with shampoo that has good vitamins for hair growth. I don't know which one all I can say is maybe use the shampoo you have at home.
I was "blessed" with thick wavy blonde hair. The only problem is that it's constantly extremely frizzy. I don't want to do any thing to it that will take away the curls or make it greesy or hair gel/spray it. So how could I go about defrizzing it?
There is this stuff called Moisture Block. It locks in the moisture and makes hair less frizzy. My stylist swears by it. It is a little expensive, but it lasts for about a year!
I use those little pieces of cloth you put in the dryer. I just wet them and rub them on my hair. I dunno, it works for me.

paul mitchell has a shampoo called frizz-ease. as far as i know they use it in salons and after a short amount of time it will help tame your hair. with it being a shampoo+conditioner set it won't leave your hair all gelled or greased up.
Try a wet curl. Wet your hair and separate it into sections. With your fingers take the sections and spin them round and round until they become spiral-y. Let that section go and you'll have a nice curl. Try it with your entire head of hair. I saw it done on TLC's what not to wear. It looked GORGEOUS when the hairstylist was done with it.
there is this stuff in a plastic bottle i forget what its called and its called anti frizz serum rub it in your hair and then blow dry while u brush and everything will be fine....
Try a leave-in conditioner, and a shine serum. Also, the straitening balms work for me to cure frizz and not take away curl or wave.
i had the same problem, but then i found a couple solutions. now, with curly hair it's best not shampoo it quite as often. at most, every other day. second, i got this great stuff by john frieda friss ease "dream curls". now, this stuff does make your hair feel a little stiff (like hair spray), but it works like a charm, de- frizzing and making your curls more deffined.
I too have naturally wavy/curly hair. Every 3 months I get a conditioning treatment under the dryer at my stylist. This works well for me and keeps the frizzies away.

You could try firzzease shampoo.I had frizzy and tangly and wavy hair but when i tried the frizzease shampoo i still had the wavy ness in my hair but the frizz was gone!
Frizease has something called Secret Weapon. It isn't greasy or sticky at all, but smooths everything out.
Another one to try that will boost the curls and control the friz is called Flocker. It's kind of like a mouse, but it doesn't make hair stiff or sticky at all. It's great, but kind of expensive. Look on QVC website for this stuff.
Neither one of these will make your blonde hair look darker like some products do.

she dos not use shampoo she just washes her hair in conditioner. If she feels she is getting too much build up from the conditioner she washed her hair in beer i guess it takes away the build up.

Have you tried using John Freida products? Anti-Frizz Serum works well. Regis Design Line ( also sold at Walmart Smart-Style stores) also has products for anti frizz. Your hairstylist should be the first person to ask. They can recommend products which they sell or that they have used themselves. Have you tried to just let your hair air dry? If it is long enough you could even braid it while it's damp and then in the morning run just your fingers through it. Good luck!
you could yuse a product from tresseme. it's a defrizzing gel that you put in after a shower and it won't frizz your hair or harden!
...or...you can try styling it different with mousse...
or you could be blowdrying your hair wrong!

I had the exact same problem... one of my friends suggested hair mousse... when you get outta the shower, brush your hair and before its dry, while its still damp, put some mousse in it, experiment a bit to see how much you need for your hair... I use pantene pro-v styling mousse for curls... I've also used a silicone serum before, and that works really well too... (but if you want the curls to stay and you dont already use mousse, I'd recommend trying it, and its cheap too!)
i have the same problem.. i used to wash my hair and let it air dry and ya i looked like a poodle. i use pure vibe anti-frizz shampoo and conditioner (available @target it is in a bright orange bottle). after i wash my hair i comb it through and apply John Fredia frizz- ease: wind-down. after my hair is dry i straighten it, but while i am straightening it i use herbal essences dangerously straight (flat out finishing spray). after all of this i use my blow dryer on cold and run my fingers through my hair while blowing cool air on it. i wait about 5 min and then use bed head after party i use very little and mostly put it on the hair under the first layer, the hairs closets to my neck. my hair is straight and really soft and it has a nice bounce to it. it works for me nd it last for about 2 days, then my hair starts to get greasy so i have to wash it and start all over : )

Don't use gel, they have great curling mousses which are not sticky. for example L'oreal has a really good one. Just apply it to wet hair, then scrunch your hair and either let it dry naturally of use a diffuser. Trust me I also have naturally wavy hair and curl it like this all the time.
Another method is to straigten your hair first using a straightening iron and then using a curling rod to curl it. Be sure to uses conditioner to protect your hair first.
The first method will give you a more natural look but the second one looks better.

Well, I think if your hair is naturally wavy then maybe you can get a perm that is the best way to get it curly and it will look natural all you would have to use on it is some conditioner when you wake up or whatever ya want to do.

It is pretty simple to give your a blow out style. Let hair dry till it is damp, spray on a styling aid, than section hair and dry each section with a large brush. Make sure hair is totally dry. than finish with a after blow drying styling aid to keep the frizzies away.

Its not any hair gel or anything that i can think of to make ur hair look straight but maybe u should go out and buy this hair grease named Motions. My hair was brittle and breaking off and after a month of using it it made my hair so strong and beautiful. I think if u got the Motions, you can falt iron ur hair yourself and it'll look as good as the beauty parlor....and try a ceramic flat iron
get a chi iron they are a little expensive but definately worth it. They will make your hair bone straight no matter how curly it is.

I was going to suggest a hot iron straightener, but seeing as you have thin and brittle hair...I'm not so sure that's a good idea.
Get the Chi iron!! It is the best flat iron that I have ever used. It is expensive but it is very well worth it and lasts for many years. When you use it though use products to keep you hair healthy.
Paul Mitchell products are really great. And when blow-drying hair get close to the scalp and go down. Make sure you don't dry toward the brush. This makes it frizzy. Put the dryer just behind the brush and "follow it" all the way to the end. Marc Anthony has good products as well. They're found in most drug stores.

You should first check to see if the middle section of your hair is slightly longer than the rest, just alil tiny bit longer , then for best result, shampoo, condition, blow dry hair to 90% dry, mousee gel or hair spary really doesn't do the trick as well as style hold hair gel or putty, try to get those, the best one i used is the Ice Spiker or something like that, get a coin size on your palm, rub it evenly among fingers then start pulling your hair from the side and work you way up to the middle section, of course the mid section should rise up like a mohawk and graudually ..not spike up lol

It's not "bad" for it, but it will make it excessively "greasy" or "yucky." There are special conditioners that are made to put on your hair during the day (meaning you're in your car; not the shower). You can just carry the bottle around with you and apply it to your hair. It is not like regular lotion. It is less greasy and designed specifically for hair.

Well I don't know if your hair is short or long, but my hair is to my shoulders and naturally curly. I use spray gel which yes it hardens if I add a lot of hairspray but it also has the wet look.
Try just the spray gel. It's the only thing that works for me
i'm just wondering, i have no clue what wax is and why people use it, i use hair gel normally just to spike my hair, etc etc ... so what is wax? and why do people use on their hair for? what does it do? is it good? o_O
It holds your hair in place much better than gel. Especially if you have very short hair and you want to spike it - most gels just wont hold the spikes. Plus you can use a very little bit of wax to get the same results you get with a big glob of gel so a can of wax also lasts longer than a bottle of gel. I have personally always used paul-mitchell dry wax because it holds my hair in place for the whole day but it feels light and airy instead of heavy and greasy like gel.
its great to hold hair in place much better then gel because its thicker.....great for spikes and funky styles...

Ive never heard of just plain wax being used on your hair...I do know what hot wax does... It heals the split ends on your hair and eases the frizz.

You don't want to go around with a comb over and many woman think bald is kinda sexy (men for women also). So shave it all, down low also so you don't look skewed. Nothing wrong with that and it will save you allot of grief. It wouldn't be as bad as you think.
Try to find the reason for your hair loss first...... is it hereditary?? Or are the products being used made with alcohol? Which is very drying to the hair shaft and causes damage and breakage. Do you have any clear gelatin (mix with water) in the food pantry? I don't know though it might be too sticky and get stuck in your hair! lol So try a test strand and see if it washes out.

I had a serious dandruff problem until I got a buzz cut: light and air and regular scraping of the scalp dealt with it. I could not have long hair comfortably. Oh well.
use selsum blue or head and shoulders. they are great dandruff shampoos.. you can find them at drugstores

of course buy some dandruff shampoo and conditioner. don't put in too much shampoo because that will lead to more flaking. massage your scalp while washing and rinse your hair really good massaging your scalp as you rinse as well. I don't recommend using a bunch of conditioner because it will make your hair look oily and grundy! I hope this helps!

If you are a guy, it could be something in your genes. If you are a girl, I would strongly suggest talking to your doctor. It could be something little or it could be something big. I would talk to a doctor though.
it could very well be stress related. Stress can cause hair loss.
There are illnesses and syndromes that cause hair loss as well.. and they can strike at varying ages.
in rare cases, it is genetic and just sort of happens.. but i'd doubt that's the case. you're far too young for that... and it's rarer in females than males.
other than that, i really don't know. But i'd get it checked out. Are you losing a lot? Did any huge change in your body or life come just before?

Okay. Here's a challenge. I have dyed black shoulder length hair that I am currently growing out. Unless hair gel is used, it is frizzy and curly. I can straighten it. What works (shampoos, etc.) to give me shiny hair?
Look for shampoos and conditioners that have frizz fighting ingredients and for shiny hair.
Burts Bees makes a really good shampoo and conditioner especially for the look of shiny hair. I used it and my hair was soo shiny - so i know it really works. But some products that promise shiny hair haven't worked for me. Try to look around and find what you like.
One way I can gurantee that you will have shiny hair, is by rinsing your hair after you shampoo and condition with ice cold water. Beauty is pain! Its not that bad just super super cold. The cold seals your hair cuticle, resulting in smoother, less frizzy hair, and makes it suuper shiny.

There is dye out there that is translucent it will make it shinny but you should get ends cut if they are fuzzy

Use raw eggs... It smells horrible but it is fantastic for your hair.
If it's frizzy you might have split ends. Get a little trim to fix that problem.

well, you know those head bands that have the little clips that you can clip on the front/top of your head? those look adorable with curly hair. also, if you use some gell that makes your hair look a little wet, that looks super cute!!! plus, it sort of makes it less poofy. Good luck!

Different products like mousse or volumizing lotion for your hair or volumizing shampoos. but for the mousse and lotions put in after you towel dry your hair then blow dry but not too dry just until its still a little wet then you straighten.

I have flat hair also, and for volume I use FX Root Lifter gel. It works pretty good and it's low-cost. You can get it at wal-mart. I also blow dry my hair bent over so my hair is upside down, but I don't know if you can do that with naturally wavy hair. Good luck :)

Don` t put chemicals in it like hair spray or gel. Wash it alot and when you use shampoo and conditionor make sure to leave the conitionor on for one minute, plus if you straghten your hair it WILL get fried and it wont be smooth trust me i have the same problem :-)

i have flat hair too but i find that after i straighten my hair and then i use the hair dryer, it gives it more volume. i just straighten my hair and then i use the garnier frutcis volumizer (http://www.cvs.com/CVSApp/cvs/gateway/de... and flip my head upside down and blow dry it (even if it's dry, if you put in the gel sometimes it hardens but the using the hair dryer will make sure it doesn't). hope this helps and happy new year!

Also, try blow drying your hair upside down (this is the one time gravity will work to your advantage) and if you do straighten your hair, dont just grab some hair and straighten down, grab your roots (with the straightener) and straighten in an upward angle and then hold your roots up (with your hand) and straighten the rest of your hair down (but dont let your roots be pulled down again!
I hope that this way will work for you!! and if it doesnt i suggest going to a proffesional hair stylist and ask them to do your hair the way you want to (straight but with volume, right?) and watch closely to what they do and what products they use! And never be afraid to ask if you have a question!!
I do the same thing! Don't put gel in your hair, it's not the texture you want. TEASE your roots! Honestly, it's not the best thing to do, but it looks good. Separate pieces of your hair on top of your hair, hair spray, and back comb it with a comb with little bristles. Let it down and cover it with another chunk of hair. Quick and easy volume!
Just don't brush it out, or else you'll pull some of your hair out. When you wash your hair, the tangles will come right out.
I have psoriasis on my scalp. I want to know if it is safe for me to use hair gel/spray/whatnot. Also, is it okay to color your hair if you have this skin condition? Skip the gels/sprays/whatnots. You can probably color your hair but it may burn in the areas of the psoriasis since that is considered an open wound.

I would first suggest consulting a dermatologist. My opinion is not to use any products containing alcohol and treat your scalp by saturating with tea tree oil.

What is your natural hair type? I'm talking about the texture of each strand and also the whole head of hair in general. Is it thin or thick, wavy or straight. Is your scalp dry or oily? Generally it is better not to wash your hair everyday, you need to let those oils collect so they can travel down the hairshaft and keep the hair from being too brittle.
If you dye your hair on your own, follow directions and use a lot of conditioner. Always use shampoo and conditioner that is specifically made for color treated hair - it will not only help keep the color in, but it is more gentle for your hair since chemicals are really harsh on your hair.
If you blow dry, try it on the cold setting and then if you really need to finish it off with heat, do it for a few seconds at the end.
When you comb your hair, use a wide toothed comb (especially if your hair is thick and/or curly). If your hair is very thick or curly, you may want to use your fingers first. I've been bleaching and lightening my hair once a month for the past 6 months and my hair has gotten more and more fragile. It's nice looking but it is harder to manage. I cannot comb my hair wet at ALL because the strands break apart so easily now. I let it dry and only start combing it unless its totally dry or a little moist. I use my fingers because it's the gentliest, then when I get most of it done I use a comb.
As for gel and hair spray, this will cause build up of product on your scalp and hair, so maybe this is why you wash your hair everyday. There are gel and hair sprays that are made for color treated hair which you should use. Try to use less product or none at all. If your hair is frizzy, they have anti-frizz cremes that you can use. You use less than you would gel or hair spray and therefore there will be less build-up. You may want to look into products that are more creme like, because its easier to go overboard with gel and sprays. You should be able to get away with washing your hair every 2-3 days.
If you need to wash everyday, try baby shampoo everyday, or if you don't feel like the baby shampoo is strong enough, alternate between the baby shampoo and regular shampoo. Massage your scalp with your fingers (gently) while you wash so you can stimulate the follicles which will stimulate growth. ALWAYS use conditioner! Let it sit in your hair for a few minutes and then rinse it off with cool water if you can. Leave in conditioners that you apply after the shower will help strengthen the strands too.
Keep your hair trimmed. If the ends are split, the break can travel up the length of the hair and make it worse.
Finally, if your hair is really coming out in clumps, there may be an underlying medical reason. Make sure you have a good diet, but hopefully that is not the case. Good luck!

Try using conditioner for hair repair( e.g. Sunsilk) everyday and shampoo every other day. Shampooing makes hair dry.
Well, first things first, don't wash your hair every day, and definitely stop shampooing 6 times. You're only drying your hair out. Try using an anti-frizz serum after washing your hair, like John Freda or Frizz-ease. Just follow the directions of the product. Also, you could use a blow dryer with the new ion technology that is suppost to reduce the frizz in your hair.
If any of these techniques don't work for you, try having your hair chemically straightened. African Americans buy a product from the drug store or have it professionally done. It's called a Relaxer, and I know several Caucasian people and other races who have used it on their hair with great results. Try using the children's ones because they tend to be somewhat gentler and have many safetys in them like color changing shampoo to let you know if all of the relaxer has been washed out or not. If you don't feel comfortable doing one of these on your own then try going to a high end professional salon that does straightening systems for you! Call and ask around. first when u get out of bath/shower blow dry your hair using hi heat and put the blow power on low then comb through it thoroughly then use a flat iron and blow dry on high using heat on low and blow power on high that should do the trick
or just tie it down using do-rag (can purchase at any beauty supply) over night

Have you tried sponge rollers? You'll probably have to wear them overnight. They are also less damaging than heat products. When I was younger, my hair was stick straight so after I washed my hair, I braided my hair in sections then curled the ends with sponge rollers. The results, wavy hair with curled ends.

Screw the products, they just contribute to hair loss in the future. What I do is use my straightners believe it or not! There's two ways:
1) Place the straightner as if you're going to straighten your hair, but turn it 180 degree angles, whislt moving it down the strip of hair
or
2) Take an inch or less of hair, use both hands to twist until it's very tight, then with the straightners, run it up and down the 'rope' slowly, then let go and seperate out with fingers.

Either way you are causing some damage. Hair gel is very drying and frequent use of any heated styling tool can cause damage as well.
You can do both styles, just keep a few things in mind like;

HaHa. How funny. I have really curly hair, as well. I straighten my hair like once a month. It's not good to straighten it once a week. Depending on the products you use, depends on the ruining of your hair. Do not wash it multiple times a day and don't put in too much product. You will damage it by straightening it too much. Still straighten it, but less times. I'm sure your hair is beautiful the way it is, but trust me it is nice to get a change.
i used to straigten everyday i used a protector spray .. it works .. i have stopped now i want to see if it makes a difference .. i dont really think your damaging it that badly !
Flat ironing it. The heat can really damage and split hair. Just condition your hair (I use pantene) and it should be fine.
I flat iron my hair nearly every day and wash my hair every other day and my hair is fine. Just make sure to use a heat defense spray (I use Tresemme or Vo5) before you flat iron and condition, condition, condition!
I've been told that heat does not damage your hair. However I use a straightening iron with ceramic plates, these are better than using the $10 metal ones that don't hold consistant heat. You can use the ceramic one every day if you want to. My hair is strong and volumous and I've never had any hairdresser tell me otherwise. In fact they always want me to donate it.
Straightening it once a week as long as you use a heat protecting spray (and/or heat protecting shampoo/conditioner) will not damage your hair too much...just don't do it daily.
However, it would damage your hair less to wash it a few times a week and use more products on curly hair...why not do it curly most of the time and flat iron it once or twice a month with the protective spray? It will be more stunning if you just flat iron it occasionally!

You can get the look you want using various pomades and dry waxes. You'll have to experiment with different brands til you find your favorite, but I like the Tigi bedhead stick. Leave the gels and sprays for grampa, this is 2006!
When you wash your hair try just scrubbing at the hairline instead of lathering up all your hair. You won't be greasy but the ends of your hair won't dry out either.

I have no idea why, because I have not been putting any gel or hair spray in it, and it has usually been very healthy. It feels dry, and is very stiff now, and whever I go, I shed. I would suggest going to the doctor of course but usually hair loss is a sign of stress, poor diet or exposure to toxic chemicals.
There are so many things that could cause this! I have a close friend that had Alapiesha... it is a disease that makes you loose a lot of hair. I am not trying to scare you... it is not a very serious disease and it can be treated. I would recommend you go to the doctor as soon as possible and have some simple painless tests done because even if you don't have this disease, you could still have malnutrition or something else. Go to the doctor and find out what is really happening. All your worrying about your hair is just adding more stress on top of the stress you already had, this is making the shedding worse. Go see a doc!! =) don't worry... leave that up to God!

Its probably due to abnormal eating habits, a different eating pattern, or lots of stress. But I doubt your hair loss is do to stress cause school IS out. Unless you have family problems.

well, i think you could maybe wet hair a little and put some gel mixed with conditioner all over it to kinda make it look moisturized, and maybe bring out the curl. then let it air dry again, and don't mess with it so it dont' get frizzy! also, if you have a head band (any kind, the plastic or fabric ones) you can comb hair back and put one on, and make sure the back of your hair has enough gel to look glossy. Or if you have some bobby pins, you can part your hair to one side and pin it, so it looks neat and in place. Or if you can find someone to do this for you: part it in half and do two french braids, one on each side, it sounds childish, but it's really cute, and it works with hair your length, you can always secure the ends with string or thread, just make a bow at the end of each braid! Good luck!!

You could also just put a nice colorful barrett in your hair just to pull it back a bit, and it still looks like you did something to it. Or you can put it in a nice colorful headband. use some gel in your hair while its still damp, towel tried. keep brushing it for as long as it takes to dry so you can keep it in the style you want it to be in. If that doesn't work, do you have a nice hat?
My just son just turned 13 and his hair is out of control. He refuse's to get it cut and I totally believe in being yourself and your own person. Okay you are nothing like my mama, she would have never let me or my 5 brothers go without a needed haircut.... if you're really having trouble getting him to want it cut... give him the option that my dad gave my brothers.... it gets cuts shorter by someone else, or it gets shaved to the skin by me! Quit being a wimp, who is the parent here? besides having long thick hair is unsanitary for boys in puberty, it help speed up the process of embarrassing acne because hair traps outside oils as well as creates its own! This can lead to poc marks and facial scarring especially around the hair line, cheeks, and neck.

not to be rude but if he's white then a shorter style will make it more managable with proper hygiene and a sparing amount of gel (extra hold) another trick to making his hair more managable is to have the barber use a razor instead of scissors... remember even if it's short now it'll grow and look great.... with thick wavey or curly hair you should never let it get past the collar, ear, and eye brow or it's untamable!!
if he's black (which i'm assuming he's not since you said "wavey hair") relax it and get braids, and get them re-done every couple of weeks. or wear the hair short in the wave style (applying pomeade, and wave grease then putting on a du-rag and pressing for a couple hours... apply a hot rap and continue to keep warm for about 5 minutes this will soften hair... then brush with a soft bristled brush in the direction of natural hair growth, reapply the du-rag, and let set for another hour or for 15 with a hot wrap....
heh well my brother is the exact same way and he murders his hair. If it is long it should be taken care of. Try getting him to let you do his hair, and if you do it well enough he will trust you enough to let you do what you like and eventually he will start to do his hair that way. my brothers hair also gets really knarly after he gets done skateboarding, all sweaty and gross. watch out for that :)

my curls kind of look like hers. except I don't have bangs, my hair is brown, and a little bit shorter. the problem with my hair is: that when i scrunch my hair some of the pieces just become frizz, so I want a new hairstyle DESPERATELY! i dony want to gel my hair back into a ponytail anymore. well, i have the SAME hair as you..... frizzy, shorter but not too short (to the shoulder) brown and curly.... and i do sum things to it to make it look fabu! well, wat kind of shampoo and contitioner do you use? i would reccommend Sunsilk anti frizz shampoo and conditioner (thats what i use and it makes my hair less frizzy) also, use a fair amount of conditioner becuz u have thicker curlier hair. when you get out of the shower, DO NOT TOWEL DRY YOUR HAIR!!!!!!!!!!! instead, squeeze out your hair and then use a paper towel, not a real towel, because real towels make your hair sooo much frizzier.dry your hair with the paper towel just so it is not dripping soaking wet. then use a wide comb to comb your hair. START FROM BOTTOM TO TOP. when you are done with that, put in Vo5 curvasious curls mousse (it is a fat, red metal bottle thing) put a generous amount on your palm, then rub it together with your hands and work it into your hair.... scrunch up your hair and let it air dry.... DO NOT USE A REAL HAIR DRIER unless you are using a diffuser, but air drying your hair gives you the least frizz, so that is what i would reccomend you do.... That will give you frizz free hair...
I would NOT reccommend straightening your hair because the more you straighten it, the less curlier your hair gets..
NO offense to anyone else reading this, but straight hair isnt that special, almost evry1 has it and you can do alot to it but it isnt as pretty as curly hair.... once your hair is frizz free, you will rlly appreciate it like i do

why don't you straighten your hair or maybe even short layer it or pigtails or what ever you like or feel like it.
Go for the straight hair look get your hair layered and thinned out so its manage able and get a hair straightener they have some now that dont damage your hair as bad as the older straighteners. I heard that the straightener with the metal plates do more damage
You and I have the EXACT same hair....
I bought a CHI hair staightener. They are about 100.00 bucks or so.. make sure you use hair syrum....... start from the bottom and work your way up to the front.
Somtimes blow drying it first helps, yes it will be FRIZZY after blow drying it, but it makes it so much easier to straighten.

IF YOU WANT TO LEAVE IT DOWN- GET SOME ANTI-FRIZZ CREAM AND PUT IT ON YOUR HAIR WHILE ITS WET AND THEN AGAIN AS IT DRIES, FRIZZ IS GOING TO HAPPEN, BUT IT WILL MINIMIZE IT.

since your hair is long enough for a ponytail then you can wear a sock bun. Just a simple bun (like a donut) on the side of your hair (that's cute and fast). Or you could try to straighten it all out then put rollers in it and just wear it curly (that's fashionable). Or you can rock a hair stlye like gwen steffani. You may need to 'practice' this, when you are not 'going out' and have the time to 'play' with your hair, but try a bun ... you may use a 'hair band for pony tails' but only a 'larger one' ... put it at the 'low back' first, then fold your hair up, and do it again (same band), then fold it down, and 'secure' the band and 'fluff' your hair so it covers the band. Or you can try 'rolling it' to one side, LOOSELY, and use a 'scissor-comb' to hold it, or 'stab through' it rolled at the top with two pretty chopsticks ... they'll not hold 'tight' but the 'look' is wonderful, and if it starts to come down (if it's long enough, it should stay up better) you can just 'tighten it' and put the sticks through again. Try getting together with a girlfriend who also wants to 'change up' her hairstyle and spend a whole day on 'trying out hair fashions' and write down the ones you really like that are 'easy' to do ... and have a WONDERFUL day 'playing' ... this kind of 'play' is both fun and 'extremely important' because you're going to be 'professional' and need nice hairstyles to go with your 'adulthood' ...
Firstly I would suggest getting it thinned toward the ends, that way it won't be quite so poofy. Also, getting it done in layers can take a lot of excess hair out of the way so it won't be so thick. I would also suggest a frizz-ease serum or treatment and using a diffuser when you dry it. Also, get some sort of professional shampoo and conditioner especially for curly hair.
If that doesn't help, you do have the option of chemically straightening it!
I think a short, razor cut style would look good, be curly without the frizz. You can also buy really good products at a salon, they might be a little more pricey than a store, but they work without the frizz. I had stuff to scrunch my hair from the store and my daughter, a cosmetologist gave me a product called Silk Infusion, it's more like a oil, or heating oil, but works great with a small amount rubbed between hands and smoothed through hair then scrunched!
If you get a really good anti-frizz system with your hair, you could wear it curly and it wouldn't look weird. I have very curly hair and have to make sure that I coat every piece of hair with mouse otherwise parts look frizzy. I use John Freida's Frizzies product line. It really does wonders for my frizz. As far as mouse I prefer Dove because no matter how much a Coat my hair, it still feels soft and not hard.
I have the exact same hair by your description, what I do is use some gloss spray to tame any of the frizz after I scrunch it. Don't use to much though otherwise it will look greasy. Also, no blow drying it will just make the hair more frizzy and dry. Have you tried to straighten it to see what it looks like? If you do straighten it use a heat insulator to protect your hair from heat damage. We are the lucky ones people say, we can straighten or let it go curly, harder to get straight hair to go curly and stay that way. Good luck. I just wanted to comment on the straightening, my hair has never stayed straight after being washed again it is always just as curly.

anywy, back onto the subject. I gather you want to make your hair stand out more or make it fluffier?
try a simple styling spray brushed through, then using the brush, flick the hair outwards, starting from the bottom and hair closest to the scalp.

I have lots of hair and if I let it grow and I don't wear a pony tail I look like a lion.
Is there any product besides hair gel (I'd need to use a bottle of it and my hair would be all stiff) that can make it look straight and wet? I don't blow dry it either.

Try washing it then drying it then use a straight iron. If that doesn't work try a girly straghting shampoo or even grease or some type of gel.

Use straighteners when you've washed it, but first put a blow dry lotion on your hair.
